Today we were told it was an easy day. And I guess it was apart from the enormous vertical climb two thirds of the way into our hike! Again the most amazing scenery. We started in Ruhpolding and walked through the Chiemgau Alps to a tiny village near Inzell.
We crossed farmland to the sounds of cowbells before reaching the clear blue water of Traubensee where the Rauschberg mountain towers over us. Below you can see the signs for our trail on the tree, that tell us we are on track. They are not always the most accurate!! But then neither are we. The reflections of the trees in the Traubensee Lake were amazing. The water was so clear. On the edge of the lake there was a chair marking the Salt Trail (SalzAlpenStieg) and you can see my fellow hiker sitting in the chair!!
We stopped in the green forest by a small church to have our cheese rolls. The rest and the food were very much appreciated! We followed the track along the mountain side of the Rauschberg mountain to our Hotel, the Aktivhotel Schmelz.
After a quick shower in the hotel Geoff and I caught the bus in to Inzell, a small village about 2-3 kms away. It was a delight to wander around the small town and sit and indulge in a coffee and cake. Then back to the hotel for dinner and a good nights rest before we start our challenging hike tomorrow!!
