Today we journeyed 2 hours through the foothills of the iconic Mount Fuji to the mountain’s base. The region is spectacular with the calm waters of the five lakes, formed by past volcanic eruptions, reflecting Fuji’s picture-perfect cone. Mount Fuji at 3776mtrs, is the highest of Japan’s mountains, and an iconic symbol of the country.
There are 5 stations heading up to Mt Fuji, the 5th station being the lowest one. As this station was closed due to low cloud, we visited the Fuji San World Heritage Centre instead.
We then traveled to Lake Ashi, where we had lunch and then took a boat across the lake before taking the Komagatake cable car for spectacular views of Mt Fuji and the lake below. Fuji Five Lakes are situated at the northern base of Mt Fuji and were formed by lava flows which damned up rivers hundreds of years ago during Mt Fuji’s multiple eruptions.
Tonight we stayed in Mishima in the Fujisan Mishima Tokyo Hotel. We went to the Onsen and had views overlooking Mt Fuji!!
