We had a rather hairy drive from Rio Vista ( not due to Judith’s driving but on account of some maniac who thought it a good idea weave in and out of the traffic at great speed) to The Stanford , in Nob Hill, San Francisco where I was meeting the group I was joining for our 5 day hike/walk. After our briefing we set off for our first walk to Lands End.
En route we drove through San Francisco to the Presidio of San Francisco (originally, El Presidio Real de San Francisco or The Royal Fortress of Saint Francis) which is a park and former U.S. Army post on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula in San Francisco, California, and is part of theGolden Gate National Recreation Area. Once a U.S. Army post, today the Presidio is a national park that is home to museums, restaurants, recreational destinations, art installations, trails, and the best views of the Golden Gate in San Francisco. It’s also a National Historic Landmark District where important stories about the country are shared. The Presidio’s former military buildings are animated by more than 3,000 residents and 200 organizations — including high tech start-ups, innovative non-profits, and others that offer a surprising mix of visitor experiences. The Presidio is managed by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with the National Park Service. In addition to raising philanthropic funds, the non-profit Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy works with the Presidio Trust and National Park Service to offer stewardship and educational programs.
Now off to Lands End to start our walk. Lands End is a park in San Francisco within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is a rocky and windswept shoreline at the mouth of the Golden Gate, situated between the Sutro District and Lincoln Park and abutting Fort Miley Military Reservation. Today it was chilly and the famous Fog was beginning to come down over the land.
Then back to the hotel after stopping at Lincoln Park Steps which is a gorgeous staircase with colourfully tiled stairs. They feature lovely designs with colours of blue, yellow, orange and green tiles. And then through an area with beautifully architectural homes.
