So today we were cycling 45.2 kilometers and ascending 1181 meters and then descending 1525 meters!! Leaving Kranjska Gora we started to ascend very quickly. Sadly it was pouring with rain and the road was partially paved with cobbles. The gradient was very demanding. However the scenery was amazing . We were surrounded by mountains capped with snow and we were well above the clouds which gave an ethereal atmosphere to our ride. We had stunning views of the Julian Alps and the surrounding mountains. Once we reached the Vrsic Pass, the highest mountain range in Slovenia, we descended to the floor of the Trent Valley. We followed the Soca river which was so clear and pale turquoise in colour and the landscape became fields with the mountains in the distance.
We cycled through the villages of Trenta, Soca and Kal-Koritnica before reaching our destination of Bovec. I don’t have many pictures today because it was too wet to stop and get my phone out!!!
We had a lovely sauna in our hotel which really warmed us up!! And now to rest before tomorrows ride! Let’s hope we have less rain.
