Fabulous day with Rachel and Rod and John and Marian in London. We met at the Royal Academy of Music where John had organised for us to watch a group of 5 students playing the trumpets. They had also composed some of the music. It was an hour of watching students really enjoying and loving what they do – playing the trumpet. So much enthusiasm and talent. Prior to arriving at the Royal Academy of Music we passed our old Polytechnic and the Halls of Residence. It is situated opposite Madame Tussaud’s on Marylebone Road. If only those walls could talk!!! There are some stories that just stay in college!!
Now off to Marylebone High Street to have lunch. It’s like a trip down memory lane, as this was the daily walk I took to my faculty building in Wells Street, just behind Oxford Street. Only 45 years ago. 😜
And then past the Xmas lights which are amazing.
Onwards down Marylebone High Street past the gourmet shop full of Xmas delights and past Ottolenghi.
Finally I met Ben after farewelling my old college friends, to stroll down Regent Street and Oxford Street to see the Xmas lights. It really feels like Xmas here. I know I complain about the cold weather but Xmas isn’t the same in the hot weather.
Note to self. Bucket list item. One snowy Xmas before I die!!!
The following Saturday I was invited by my old school friend Steph and her husband Jim to join them at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Dean Street Soho. The main artist was Greg Karukas who is a smooth jazz pianist from Maryland. He was amazing. Supporting him were James Pusey and Orefo Orakwue on the guitar. Fabulous night.
Thanks Steph and Jim
