The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, formally known as the Great Spring Show, is a garden show held for five days in May by the Royal Horticultural Society in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea, London. Held at Chelsea since 1912, the show is attended by members of the British royal family.
I spent a wonderful day there with my Aussie neighbours and good friends. The gardens are the best for showing latest trends and cutting edge ideas in garden design.
Some of the special gardens for me were the smaller Sanctuary Gardens that embrace the benefits of gardens on well being. When the show opened we went straight to the Great Pavilion so as to avoid the crowds. Some of the world’s finest growers and nurseries exhibit impressive displays there, and nothing compares to being surrounded by the colour and fragrance in the Pavilion at the world’s most famous flower show.
By lunch time, the show was packed and we were lucky to get seats in the band stand to soak up the springtime sounds of Chelsea in full swing.
After leaving the show, we strolled from Sloane Square down Kings Road, taking in all the displays in and around the trendy shops. A little retail therapy was required, followed by dinner at the Ivy.
