Today we started our first official bike journey. 35.4 kilometres. We cycled through the mountains along by Radovna River. The water was so clear and aqua in colour, but icy to the touch. We climbed to Zgornja Radovna and then descended in to the village of Mojstrana. We rode across fields and past villages like Gozd Martuljek and enjoyed magnificent views of the steep Julian Alps on our left and the wooden slopes of the Karawanks on our right. We followed the cycling path to Kranjska Gora which is our final destination for today.
We stopped at this lovely little cafe called “Psnak” for lunch and had the most delicious apricot jam and honey pancakes. We met three english cyclists who were on normal bikes, which put us to shame especially as they were similar ages to us!!! Each table had a sheet with this information on it which we found highly amusing. We were lucky because we didn’t have to wait too long for our pancakes!!
Kranjska Gora is an alpine village and a world renowned ski resort. It is very quaint and full of chalet style accommodation. Our hotel has been made in to apartments, each one spotlessly clean with a kitchenette, table and chairs and an ensuite bathroom. There are plates of homemade biscuits everywhere!
We went to Restaurant Lipa for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. Beautiful soup followed by truffle gnocchi and then a very decadent chocolate dessert.
One of the wonderful things about travelling is that you meet the most amazing and diverse people who all have their stores to tell. Tonight we chatted to Wayne and Rosalie from Adelaide in the restaurant. They had some great travel stories to tell.
I’m told we are going to have rain over the next week so we shall see!!!
Good night!!!
