Start of the day!!!!
Well I managed to get out of bed this morning and actually felt a lot better than I did last night! After a lovely continental breakfast we had a transfer from our hotel to the Bergen Hochfelln cable car station. Ascending in the cable car we had amazing views of the Chiemgau, although the higher we got, the mistier and wetter it became! After a coffee at the viewing platform we embarked on our walk in our wet weather gear. The paths were very wet and rocky so I was a lot slower than I would have liked to be, but Geoff being the mountain goat that he is, quickly descended down these narrow muddy and rocky paths. However it wasn’t long before the sun started shining and we were able to take off our wet gear.
We went past sprawling alpine fields and through the heart of the forest which are akin to the more northerly forests which inspired the Grimm fairy tales.
There were a lot of ups and downs, slippery stones and slopes, beautiful forest paths covered in fir leaves and green pastures. We had different scenery at every bend we came to.
Today we covered around 16kms but it was a challenging walk. We were told this evening that tomorrows walk is a lot easier!! We shall see.
On arriving at our hotel, we both just wanted to shower and get our wet shoes off. We walked in to the town of Ruhpolding and had a lovely dinner. A lovely end to another satisfying day!!
