After a very informative drive through Halifax, we travelled via the Lighthouse Route, a road that winds through dramatic rock formations that eroding glaciers left in their wakes millions of years ago, to arrive at Peggy’s Cove, a rustic fishing village with just a few dozen full-time residents.
We saw lobster traps and fishing boats, as lobstering is essential to the local economy.
We visited the monument that local sculptor William DeGarthe carved into a granite outcropping. It depicts dozens of fishermen, their families and St. Elmo, the patron saint of sailors.
A lovely morning spent with our new friends Chris and Mike!
