And so the adventure begins!! An early start to the day to take our light aircraft from Wilson airport, Nairobi to Amboseli airport.
Just amazing! On the way from the airport to Tortilis camp we encountered pink flamingoes, wildebeest, ibis, cheetahs, giraffes, thomson gazelles and many more species of wild life. It is such a privilege to see them strolling around freely in their natural habitat and to be able to experience this. Very lucky.
The land varies so much as you’re driving. From arid and dry to green near the water, flat and grassy to wooded and bushy. Different animals frequent different habitats.
Amboseli National Park is famous for the elephants that live here. Nearly 2000 in total and so many calves. They’re not the least interested in us. They just go about their business and happily cross the road in front of us! The elephants use their hooves to break up the hard muddy ground to pull up the grass for their feed. They also break up the ground in the marshy areas to create small water holes for all the other animals to share.
And our afternoon safari was amazing. We saw two lionesses and their cubs. Again no interest in us. Just drinking water and chilling. Like any young children, the cubs just wanted to play!
After sunset and a G & T we returned to our beautiful tent and a very tasty meal. By the way, the acacia tree is the tree that Maurice and I had as our wedding theme and is the tree of life. It doesn’t get much better than this.
