Norfolk is a beautiful county that I haven’t really explored before. Lesley and I took ourselves off to the lovey town of Holt.
The historic Georgian town of Holt is a charming rural north Norfolk town surrounded by parks. Close to the coast and with shops and places to stay, Holt is an ideal holiday destination.
Holt’s fine 18th century Georgian buildings make the town one of the most attractive in north Norfolk. The town is home to many art galleries, antique and book shops and places to eat located along the high street and tucked away in hidden, charming courtyards and alleyways. Bakers and Larners department store and Byfords are two landmark establishments in the town. We also visited this amazingly quirky tea shop.
We also went to Sheringham and Cromer, where we went to a famous fish and chips shop No. 1 Cromer which overlooks the ocean. And we went to a Variety show in the theatre on the pier. Quite an experience!
Just outside the centre of Holt is the North Norfolk Railway station where you can catch the Poppy Line steam and diesel train services to Weybourne and Sheringham. The station here is a faithful recreation of an M&GN country station, using buildings recovered from various locations in East Anglia. My step sisters husband, Pete, used to volunteer on the railway and dressed up in the full railway gear. He really loved the old steam trains. Here’s to you Pete!
