Two days in Southampton meeting Susie, and her friends Jan and Craig, before we all set sail for the Orkney and Faroe Islands and Greenland and Iceland.
I had an afternoon in Southampton in Westquay shopping centre pottering in two of my favourite shops. Waterstones book shop and M & S!!! Then off with Susie, Jan and Craig to HarBAR on 6th for a refreshing drink whilst sitting looking out at the marina. I can see that we are going to have fun on the cruise!
On the second day in Southampton after a coffee down at the marina, my good friend Judy picked me up and took me back to the lovely village where she lives in Hamble, about 15 minutes drive from Southampton.
Hamble (le-Rice) on the outskirts of Southampton, lies along the River Hamble and is a quaint, picturesque village, boasting stunning views, period cottages, pretty walks and thriving wildlife.
Formerly used as an aircraft training centre during the Second World War, Hamble is now a yachting Mecca, drawing in people from around the world for races, events and celebrations. After Cowes on the Isle of Wight, it is seen as one of the most important yachting destinations in the UK. It also featured in the TV series Howards’ Way.
To finish the day we enjoyed a lovely meal of shared plates at the italian restaurant Bacaro in Ocean Village. Judy’s lovely friend Nancy, whom I met in Perth several years ago, joined us for coffee down by the river and then for the lovely meal at Bacaro.
Tomorrow Susie, Jan, Craig and myself join Regent of the Seven Seas, Splendour to sail from Southampton for 2 weeks. I will try to keep the posts updated but wifi is limited on the ship so I may have to wait until the cruise is over to update you with my adventures!!
Until the next time…………….🙋🏼♀️
