I spent a lovely day in San Francisco with Sue. I was on a mission to walk down Lombard Street, visit Fishermans Wharf and then head to Union Square to have lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, and after achieving this we decided a little retail therapy was in order, and so we visited Macy’s and Saks, Fifth Avenue. Sue found a potential “Mother of the Bride” dress!!
Lombard Street is known as the crookedest street in the world that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. Stretching from The Presidio east to The Embarcadero, most of the street’s western segment is a major thoroughfare designated as part of U.S. Route 101.
Fisherman’s Wharf, on the northern waterfront, is one of the city’s busiest tourist areas. You have postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz from the Wharf. There’s also a colony of sea lions to see although we only got to see one lonely sealion. At Ghirardelli Square, boutiques and eateries reside in the famed former chocolate factory.
Union Square is situated next to the Westin, St Francis Hotel and Macy’s and Saks, Fifth Avenue, and the Dewey Monument is situated in Union Square. We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory in Macy’s and the photo below is one of the many cheesecakes we could choose from!!! The big question is did I manage to finish it?
We then drove back to Mill Valley over the Golden Gate Bridge and initially it was covered in the Fog but as we drove further across the bridge the Fog just cleared. The Fog is certainly a phenomenon that has a mind of its own!! It is known locally as Karl!!
Pleasantly tired, we relaxed at home and watched the golf championships taking place at Pebble Beach on the TV.
